Project Description: This project was a new construction, 101,000 square foot elementary school for the Palm Springs Unified School District. The commissioned equipment included 47 packaged rooftop HVAC units, 17 split system fan coils, 17 exhaust fans, the BAS Control System, a domestic hot water system, a lighting control system, and an irrigation control system.
Scope of Work Performed: Alpers performed a comprehensive Commissioning design review of the contract documents for clarity, completeness, and compliance. A total of 72 design issues were observed, reported, tracked, resolved, and backchecked before the 100% DSA approval and bid documents. We identified 149 issues within the HVAC, Lighting, Domestic Water, and Irrigation equipment through our construction phase commissioning. We successfully coordinated with the entire Design/Construction team to close out all 72‐design phase and 153 construction phase issues. Additionally, our strong background knowledge of Honeywell JADE Economizer controls and internal control parameters allowed the Commissioning Agent to train the project team on what programmable settings were necessary to properly implement the mechanical engineers specified control sequence and meet District standards. The programming prevented the Contractor from improperly configuring the 47 AC units.
Alpers' familiarity with the codes, ASHRAE, and the commissioning procedures identified many issues that saved the cost of change orders and provided significant energy savings for the District.
